What You Need to Know

  • What Are the Most Common Bathtub Problems?

Broken O-rings or valve controls are fairly common bathtub problems. Broken valve controls will lead to both leaking and screeching when you run the water. If you hear screeching, your faucet is likely worn and needs repair. Other common problems include clogged drains and cracks in the bathtub’s lining. You’ll know it’s a clogged drain if wastewater backs up into your tub.

  • If My Bathtub Has a Crack, Will It Need Replacing?

Not necessarily. Most bathtub cracks can be fixed for far less money with a resurfacing project, where a plumber reseals and applies a new lining to the tub. Resurfacing gives you the appearance and function of a brand-new tub for less money than the cost of installing one. You can even change its finish to have an entirely “different” bathtub!

  • Why Is My Tub Draining So Slowly?

Over time, your drain will become clogged with hair, soap residue, oils, and mineral deposits. As the clog becomes bigger, water has less space to travel down the drain, which is why your tub is draining slowly. The solution is to clear the drain, but chemical drainers are not effective and may make the problem worse, depending on what’s in your drain. The best solution is to call a plumber.
